What Our Home Rekeying Service Actually Involves
Rekeying is a precise mechanical process performed inside the lock cylinder itself. A trained technician removes the cylinder from your door knob lock, deadbolt, or mortise lock, disassembles it, swaps out the driver pins and key pins for a new set, and reassembles everything to factory tolerances. The result is a cylinder that responds only to the new key cut we create on-site. No new hardware is required unless an inspection reveals that the existing cylinder is worn, damaged, or the wrong security grade for your door — in which case we will explain the situation and give you options before doing anything extra.
A full-house rekey on a typical Shavano Park property means we work through every keyed entry point: front door deadbolt, front door knob lock, back door, side garage entry, and any secondary access points such as a laundry room or workshop door. When we key-alike all those cylinders, the single new key you receive opens every lock. That convenience is particularly valuable in a family home where multiple people need access — and it eliminates the cluttered key ring that comes from years of mismatched hardware upgrades. We bring all the necessary pin kits, cutting equipment, and cylinder tools on our mobile service vehicle, so there is no waiting for parts to arrive.
